About Tom Morrison
Tom Morrison represented Illinois’ 54th House district for 12 years, serving most of Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Inverness, and portions of Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and Barrington. He was one of two Republican legislators whose districts are entirely within Cook County.
Morrison comes from a family of small business entrepreneurs—from advertising to printing, to his own venture with his brother in commercial and residential disaster cleanup and restoration—a business they built up and eventually sold. Morrison is a Glenview native -- his family's print shop was at the corner of Waukegan and Lake and he is a Glenbrook South graduate. He also taught 5th grade for 6 years and briefly worked in radio/TV broadcasting.
Morrison “walks the talk.” He ran his district office under budget every single year, saving Illinois taxpayers over $110,000. He got a 100 percent score from Taxpayers United of America, based on votes against tax increases and votes against the outsized appropriations and policies that drive the state’s need to raise additional taxes.
His advocacy for pension reform—the largest fiscal problem facing state and local residents—led him to become Illinois’ first non-public employee to opt out of the state’s lucrative legislator pension plan. Over 60 other Illinois legislators and statewide officials have now done likewise.
In 2020, the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers named him their “Legislator of the Year,” the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association gave him a “Sheriff’s Star” award, and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce named him a “Champion of Free Enterprise.” He left the legislature in January 2023.
Today, Tom works for Tim Ozinga's Big Tent Coaltion, supporting Republican legislative candidates in Illinois.
Morrison graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan with a history major and communications minor. He’s been married to Bethany for 21 years, and they have four children.
