We are anguished by the senseless killing of Charlie Kirk. Many of our members have known Charlie since his days as a student at Wheeling High School. His mission to build a conservative movement in high schools and colleges was both urgent and impactful. Through Turning Point USA, he provided a voice and support for conservative students at a time when their schools often did anything but. Students at GBS, GBN, New Trier, Loyola, and beyond benefited from his efforts—and his legacy will live on through the many more who continue to do so. Charlie also welcomed debate. At college appearances such as the one he made today at Utah Valley University, he would take questions from students who disagreed with him and debate with them respectfully.

Charlie’s death comes at a time when hostility toward conservative voices is growing louder. This is a symptom of a culture in decline—and it demands leadership. In the days ahead, Republicans must show that we are the adults in the room, even when others refuse to be.

Tonight, our hearts are with Charlie’s family and friends. At only 31 years old, he leaves behind a wife and two very young children. His loss is profound, but so too is the responsibility he leaves us: to carry forward his mission with courage, clarity, and conviction.
